How do Kiwis want buildings to perform during and after an earthquake?

April 13, 2022

A policy brief for NZSEE Project on Resilient Buildings.

A major research report – ‘Societal Expectations for Seismic Performance of Buildings’ - has just been released. This research was triggered as recent severe earthquakes have shown how many buildings designed in accordance with current life safety standards in the Building Code, are uneconomical to be repaired after a major earthquake event. Increasing performance levels by designing stronger and stiffer buildings would ensure more resilience by enabling faster economic and social recovery.
