Peter joined NZIER in January 2015. He has over 30 years’ experience in the public and private sectors, including time as a senior policy manager, economic adviser and commercial strategist. He recently joined NZIER from the infrastructure sector, where he worked on commercial strategy and a wide range of projects. Before that, he worked for over 25 years in finance ministries in New Zealand and Australia.
His professional interests range over regulatory economics, local government and planning to climate change and social policy. He is experienced in designing practical and low-compliance cost regulatory regimes.
His publications include books and articles on social policy, immigration, wellbeing, tax policy, New Zealand’s long-term fiscal position and climate change.
