John Beckett



John has a wide experience of economic issues in transport, energy and primary industries.

Most recently, for nine years he was the Executive Director of BARNZ, which represents nearly all the airlines that fly into New Zealand on matters that they can deal with collectively. They include airport pricing, airport capital expenditure projects, and government departments and agencies that interact with airlines.

Prior to that, for eight years John was as an economic consultant, mainly in the transport, primary and other industries. Prior to that, for 15 years he was a senior executive at the NZ Dairy Board, primarily in roles covering the global supply chain, manufacturing planning and pricing, and management accounting and financial accounting.

Before that John worked for the Government for 10 years on economic policy issues in transport and energy, including a period in the Prime Minister’s Department. Prior to that he worked as a management consultant for Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. in London.

John has wide public and private experience of economic issues. His expertise centres on pricing, competition and capital expenditure issues.
